People working in web development jobs have been reminded to understand who their users are in order for it to be a success.
Users will not stay if the website is unusable, explained Tom Stewart, executive chairman of System-concepts.com and former president of The Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors.
He stressed the importance of having a user-centric design process, understanding the target market and what the website will function as. Finally, he said the website must be tested with someone who represents future users to follow through the right path on the site.
Designing a website for smartphones is also something that must be considered.
"So if you’re on a website with a smartphone, you can pinch and stretch and all those sort of things – all those gestures [have to be considered]," the expert remarked.
