E-commerce Website Joomla

Our client was a crafting material supplier located in USA. This supplier specializes in selling jewelry crafting materials online and in store. Although our client had many e-commerce profiles online, they did not have a centralized professional website to sell their products. The client requested our tech team to create a user oriented and easy to maintenance e-commerce website. After reviewing client’s demands, we decided to keep this as a fixed price, short term, and transparent project where our engineers worked closely with our client.

Web developers decided to build a user friendly and easy accessible e-commerce website using open source content management system (CMS), Joomla, which is distributed under GNU General Public License. Written with PHP and MySQL, Joomla provides useful features such as multiple language support, RSS feeds, Blog, Polls, Search, and printable web pages. Joolma uses Model-View-Control (MVC) web application framework. For web applications, model usually means the database system. View is user interface element in this case it is the web pages. Controller receives inputs from view, sends instructions to model, and then renders the data back to view. Our engineers took advantage of the Joomla‘s MVC architecture to create a user oriented e-commerce website.

This project divides into web design, database system module development, and IT support. Our web designers created several simple, but unique web templates for the crafting material company. The templates were modified to work with Joomla CMS. Then the engineers developed an import/export system using Java to transfer data between MySQL database and craft material company’s original inventory system. Finally, our team created online customer support enabled live chat and blog to answer customer’s need. We also provided IT training to several employees on how to modify and change the e-commerce site using the Joomla CMS.
