Mobile technology is a collective term used to describe the various types of cellular communication technology. Mobile technology is exactly what the name shows – technology that is portable. Some examples of mobile IT devices include laptop and netbook computers, palmtop computers or personal digital assistants, mobile phones and ‘SmartPhones’, global positioning system (GPS) devices, and wireless debit/credit card payment terminals.

Currently, there are many kinds of SmartPhone operating systems available, such as Apple iOS, Android, Blackberry, Symbian, WebOS, Windows Mobile Standard (non-touch screen), and Window Mobile Professional (touch screen). The most popular mobile devices are Apple iPhone, and the newest one – Android. Android was developed by Google, the world’s first fully open platform that any mobile developer can use and any hardware manufacturer can install on a device. The Apple iPhone is the most popular SmartPhone at this time due to its customizable operating system which allows users to download and install applications. The Palm Pre using WebOS to support web based programming languages such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
